The Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) is collaborating with the International Islamic University Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF) in delivering a programme to build a solid foundation of Shariah knowledge among learners as well as strengthening the development of the Islamic finance globally.

The i-Contract Series, a programme initiated by IBFIM and IIiBF, aims to provide an in-depth understanding to the practical aspects and operational requirements of Shariah contracts and serves as an essential guide to successfully implement the Shariah Standards. The learning approach adopted for the programme signifies a paradigm shift in instilling an understanding of the theoretical and operational aspects in respective Shariah contracts.

The programme was launched by the IIUM's President, Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar and was held in conjunction with the IIUM Islamic Finance Presidential Talk, delivered by Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, the Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Berhad.

“Building on the success of the inaugural IIUM Islamic Finance Presidential Talk in 2019, this year’s Presidential addresses the issue on sustainability and value-based Islamic Finance, the topic which is very pertinent and current in Islamic finance. In its journey towards global sustainable development, it is imperative that the financial system plays its role in delivering long-lasting socio-economic prosperity. IIiBF through this programme supports the IIUM’s strategic agenda on sustainability.” said Prof Dr Rusni Hassan, Dean of IIiBF.

This IIiBF-IBFIM collaborative programme, signifies the industry and academia synergy in ensuring continuous development of the Islamic finance industry. IIiBF as a premier centre of excellence for education and research in Islamic banking and finance is proud of this collaboration,” added Prof Dr Rusni.

“We are very honoured to be collaborating with IIiBF in this very distinctive programme. It is envisaged that this initiative will provide a convergent and paves the way for greater understanding and acceptance as well as harmonising the practical knowledge and practices between the Shariah scholars and the industry practitioners,” said Yusry Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer, IBFIM.

“IBFIM and IIiBF share the same aspiration in the effort to strengthen the development of Islamic finance and to position Malaysia as a reputable Islamic finance knowledge hub. This will serve as a starting point of reference for the global Islamic finance community,” added Yusry.
