Bank Islam Breaks One Million Barrier In Debit Card Issuance

Rewards customers with new campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, Thursday, 21 March 2013: Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) announced today it has punched through the one million barrier with the issuance of a total of 1.21 million Bank Islam Visa Debit Card, to set a new record for debit card issuance by Islamic banks.

Announcing this at a media briefing, Bank Islam’s Director of Business Development, Encik Khairul Kamarudin said: “Surpassing the one millionth card member subscription serves to further enhance our position as a leader in the Shariahcompliant products and services.”

In addition to the record number of debit card members, Bank Islam had also won an award for the Largest Payment Volume in Islamic Debit Card category at the Visa Malaysia Bank Awards 2012 ceremony recently. This is the second successive year Bank Islam has received the award in the same category by Visa Malaysia.

Mr Stuart Tomlinson, Country Manager, Malaysia, Visa, said at the media briefing: “I would like to congratulate Bank Islam for hitting the one million mark with its Bank Islam Visa Debit Cardi. This achievement is a reflection of Bank Islam’s efforts in educating and promoting to consumers the advantages of debit cards as a daily payment tool for all purchases, big or small.”

“Visa is pleased to share in Bank Islam’s success in advancing the growing popularity of debit cards and electronic payments in Malaysia, which is also a sign of the strong progress towards EPP4, the Government’s drive to migrate Malaysia to a cashless society. Debit cards offer consumers greater convenience, security and more efficient ways to manage their money,” added Tomlinson.

Encik Khairul said: “Of course, we would not have been able to do this without the continued support and patronage of our customers. To thank them, we are launching a ‘Thanks A Million Visa Debit Cardi Campaign” where we will give our customers the opportunity to win up to 20 weekly prizes by spending using their Visa Debit Cardi.

The campaign will run from 25 March to 21 April 2013. During this period, up to 20 FujiFilm Instax cameras are up for grab with five units to be given away each week. Customers only need to make a minimum retail transaction of RM200 using their Visa Debit Cardi to be eligible for a chance to win one of the cameras.

The transaction can be made at any retail outlet with the VISA logo, nationwide. This campaign is open to all Bank Islam Visa Debit Cardi customers.

Encik Khairul said: “We are constantly looking at how we can build a more meaningful and complete relationship with our customers through valuedadded products and services which will not just meet their expectations but to delight them as well,” adding that, “through this campaign, we are looking at gaining new customers as well.”

To find out more about the campaign, customers can visit the nearest Bank Islam branch or call 0326 900 900. Customers may also log on to www.bankislam.com.my or find Bank Islam at facebook. Terms and conditions apply.
